This page says what alteredhabitat.com collects and why. We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Reading the site

Visit counts. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits: the page viewed, the site that sent you, your country, browser and device type, and how fast the page loaded. We use them only as totals, not to identify you or follow you to other sites. Reading the comics sets no cookies.
Technical records. Our web host keeps basic records of each request (the page, the time, your IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and working.
X and Facebook buttons. The Subscribe page shows buttons from X and Facebook, so those companies see that visit and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies.

What we keep

The old email list. Penguin’s email updates have stopped. We still hold the email addresses of readers who signed up between 2013 and 2020, and we send them nothing. Write to us and we delete yours.
Comments. Only registered readers can comment, and new accounts are closed. A comment keeps the name, email address and IP address it was posted with, and Akismet checks it for spam.
Email. If you write to [email protected], we keep your message to answer you.

Who else sees it

Only the companies that run the site for us, each for that job alone: Cloudflare (the site’s network and visit counts) and Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com (Akismet). And authorities, when the law requires it.

Your choices
